What Is EVA Hot Melt Adhesive

EVA hot melt adhesive is a thermoplastic adhesive based on Ethylene Vinyl Acetate copolymer. It is supplied in solid form such as pellets, glue sticks, pillows, or blocks. During application, the adhesive is heated to a molten state, applied onto the substrate, and then solidifies rapidly after cooling.

Core Function
Fast industrial bonding for automated production lines with quick setting, stable processing, and solvent-free operation.
Working Principle
Solid EVA adhesive is heated to 130–180°C, melted into liquid form, coated onto the substrate, and physically solidified during cooling.
Typical Composition
EVA polymer, tackifier resin, wax, antioxidant, filler, and processing additives.

Common EVA Hot Melt Problems

Why Does Stringing Occur?
Usually caused by excessive application temperature, incorrect viscosity selection, or excessive open time.
Why Does Carbonization Happen?
Continuous overheating inside the glue tank can oxidize EVA material and generate char particles.
Poor Adhesion on PP & PE
Polyolefin materials have low surface energy and often require specialized PO or reactive adhesive systems.
Nozzle Clogging
Caused by carbonization, unstable temperature control, or contamination inside the hot melt system.

EVA Hot Melt Adhesive FAQ

What viscosity is suitable for high-speed carton sealing?
Low to medium viscosity EVA with short setting time is typically used for high-speed packaging lines.
Can EVA hot melt bond PP materials?
Standard EVA has limited adhesion on PP and PE surfaces. Specialized polyolefin adhesive systems are usually preferred.
What causes EVA adhesive charring?
Long-term thermal exposure and excessive tank temperature may lead to oxidation and carbon buildup.
What is the shelf life of EVA hot melt adhesive?
Typical shelf life ranges from 12 to 24 months under dry and controlled storage conditions.
